Four arrested during drug, firearms sweep

Four people were arrested on a variety of drug and firearms charges Wednesday in Jefferson City and are being held in the Cole County Jail. Three of the four were on probation or parole at the time of the arrests.

Four people are in custody after the Jefferson City SWAT team and the MUSTANG Drug Task Force served search warrants at two residences in the 1000 block of Bueana Vista Street.

According to Captain Doug Shoemaker of the Jefferson City Police Department, 24-year-old Dominique Helton and 22-year-old Chonsie Clayton were arrested on various drug and firearms possession charges. Helton was already on parole for burglary, vehicle theft, and resisting arrest, and is being held in the Cole County Jail on $25,000 bond. Clayton is being held on $25,000 bond as well.

Information gleaned from that search led authorities to a second residence, next door to the first, at which drugs were discovered and two more arrests were made.

28-year-old Nicholas Birdsong, who was already on parole for distribution of a controlled substance, forgery, and resisting arrest, is being held on $50,000 bond for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute, and 34-year-old James Morris is being held for parole violations.

Shoemaker says additional arrests are expected.
