Flash flooding causes water rescue

At least one water rescue had to be performed Tuesday morning after heavy rains in mid-Missouri flooded roadways.

Heavy overnight rains in mid-Missouri created hazardous conditions for drivers in low-lying areas Tuesday morning. At least one driver had to be rescued from the roof of a vehicle.

According to the Columbia Fire Department, units from Columbia and the Boone County Fire Protection District responded at about 12:30 Monday morning to Millcreek and Highway KK for a water rescue.

They found a car in high moving water with the driver stranded on top of the car. A rescue boat was deployed and the driver rescued within four minutes.

The Columbia Fire Department urges people not to drive through water that is over the roadway.
