A fire destroyed the attic of a Jefferson City home about 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
A woman and her 2 children who live in the rental house in the 1300 block of East Miller Street are out of town this weekend visiting a sick friend.
Our crews were at the fire station when firefighters got a second call to the home later in the afternoon.
A neighbor thought the house caught on fire again, but it was actually some insulation from the house rekindling in the backyard.
The living area of the house was not damaged.
There was heavy fire damage to the attic and the rear of the building.
Jefferson City Fire Department Captain Steve Holtmeier said, "We got a very good jump on it. We got it knocked down very quickly. There is no fire damage to her living area. There is some water and some smoke damage, but nothing that can't be fixed."
Neighbors told firefighters there were some pets in the house, but firefighters did not find them.
Fire investigators have not determined a cause or an exact damage amount.
