At least four rooms are damaged at a Jefferson City Econo Lodge after a fire broke out late Wednesday afternoon.
Interim Fire Chief Jason Turner told KRCG 13 firefighters were called a little after 4:30 p.m. and found a first-floor room engulfed in flame. Firefighters were told there were people trapped on the second floor of the hotel but did not find anyone needed assistance. Turner said firefighters had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. He said two or three rooms on the first floor were damaged by fire or smoke while one or two second-floor rooms sustained mainly smoke damage. There were no reported injuries.
The room where the fire started was unoccupied at the time. Turner said firefighters had not yet found a cause but noted the room was being treated at the time for some kind of pest, though he did not know what kind.
