Fallen Marine's minister: "He was doing what he loved to do"

Senior Minister Mark Kummer encouraged community members to support the family as they grieved the loss of Sgt. Talon Leach. (KRCG 13/Talon Leach family)

One of the 16 Marines killed in the Mississippi plane crash was born and raised in Fulton. Sergeant Talon Leach graduated from North Callaway High School and joined the Marines in 2010.

Talon's father works as the Music Director at Callaway Christian Church. Senior Minister Mark Kummer encouraged community members to support the family as they grieve.

"Don't be afraid to walk up to them and talk to them about the family member that they've lost. They are still thinking about that person. It won't be awkward, they'll appreciate it, and though we move on, they don't ever really get over," Kummer said. "They get through, but not over, and so we want to remember that and just continue to love and embrace them and periodically bring up that family member and say you know that made me think of your son, that reminded me of him. Or it's a proud day her in Memorial Day or Veteran's Day or something like that and I know you were very proud of Talon."

Kummer said Tab Leach (Talon's father) and the entire family will rely on their faith to get them through the tragedy.

"Tab is a very strong man of faith and of course when your son passes, that's a hard thing. we're all human, but he takes it in a different way from a Christian perspective," he said. "We grieve together and we celebrate together when folks celebrate so as family we grieve with him, but we have a different outlook."
