Escaped inmate, two accomplices captured

An inmate who escaped from the Phelps County Jail Monday night was captured in Arnold on Wednesday, and two accomplices have also been taken into custody.

According to Phelps County Sheriff Richard Lisenbe, Michael Schultz, 32, was taken into custody in Arnold, just south of St. Louis. He is once again confined in the Phelps County Jail.

Schultz escaped while performing supervised work. He was in jail for a nonviolent offense.

One accomplice, 24-year-old Cole White of Dittmer, was arrested in High Ridge Tuesday evening on suspicion of Aiding Escape of a Prisoner. Another accomplice, Schultz's girlfriend Mary Dames, 39, of Fenton, was also arrested in Arnold Wednesday for Aiding Escape of a Prisoner.

White and Dames were jailed on $100,000 bond. Schultz is being held without bond.

The Phelps County Sheriff's Department was helped in the apprehension by the United States Marshall's Service and area law enforcement agencies.
