Chuck Basye said he wants to help craft solutions to the state's problems rather than sit on the sidelines and complain about them.
Basye is one of two Republicans running in the August 5 primary for the 47th House District, which includes western Boone and southern Randolph counties. The seat is currently held by Democrat John Wright, who is seeking reelection. Wright is not facing any Democratic opposition.
Basye said the state's tax rates are too high across the board. He said he wants to reduce tax rates and keep the conversation geared toward minimizing taxes' impact on everyone.
Basye said his 31 years of government work, service in the Marine Corps and profession as a small business owner qualify him for the job. If elected, Basye said his top priorities would be education, jobs and the economy, and agriculture.
