Several Columbia homes were damaged in an early morning fire Wednesday.
Just after 4:00 a.m., Columbia firefighters were dispatched to the 3700 block of Woodrail on the Green. Heavy fire was coming from the roof of one of the buildings. High winds contributed to rapid fire spread, resulting in a second alarm about 45 minutes later. Fire officials say visibility was down to about three feet.
Crews fought the blaze for one and a half hours. A majority of the damage was contained to two units, but two adjacent units were also damaged.
Everyone involved was able to escape the fire without injury. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. One firefighter was transported to University Hospital with a minor injury.
