Driver crashes into Lake of the Ozarks

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit investigates

A man was airlifted to the hospital after his SUV crashed into the Lake of the Ozarks at the Grand Glaize Bridge.

Osage Beach Police say at about 4:40 Sunday morning, they responded to a call of a vehicle mostly submerged in the water. The white Suzuki SUV had collided with the guard rail, traveled down the hill, rolled, and landed in the water. The driver, a 23-year-old man from Springfield, was found unresponsive along the bank.

While one officer attended to the victim, another jumped into the water to search the vehicle for more people. No one else was found in the vehicle.

The man was loaded on a fireboat and taken to Formula One Boats. He was transferred by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital, and immediately flown to the University of Missouri. His status is unknown at this time.

Atlantis Diving and Tow Boat USA were called to raise the vehicle so it could be removed from the water.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit was called to determine what happened before and after the vehicle hit the guardrail.
