Driver airlifted to hospital after highway crash

A Fulton man was airlifted to University Hospital with serious injuries after crashing his truck into a ditch Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, 61-year-old Charles Garriott struck the center median of Highway 54 near the Churchill Museum exit, then crossed the highway and crashed into a ditch. Police say failure of the front driver side tire seems to have been the cause of the accident.

A Callaway County ambulance was following Garriott at the time of the accident, and crews were able to provide Garriott with immediate medical assistance before he was airlifted.
