The plight of a Missouri man convicted of killing a newspaper sports editor soon will be the focus of a documentary film as he continues his battle for freedom.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports a documentary team directed by Andrew Jenks, host of an MTV documentary series, began working last week on the case of Ryan Ferguson.
Ferguson is serving a 40-year sentence for the Nov. 1, 2001, death of Tribune sports editor Kent Heitholt, who was beaten and strangled in the newspaper's parking lot.
Ferguson is asking an appeals court for a new trial after his latest attempt was denied. He was convicted in 2005 of second-degree murder and first-degree robbery, but has maintained his innocence.
Jenks says he has no predetermined judgments about Ferguson's case.
