Columbiaâ??s new Diverging Diamond Interchange opened to traffic shortly after midnight this morning.
That was about 6 hours ahead of schedule.
The interchange is part of $13 million project to improve traffic flow near Stadium Boulevard and Interstate 70.
The traffic pattern of the Diverging Diamond Interchange is one of a kind in Mid-Missouri.
Drivers have to cross over to the opposite side of the road while on the Interstate 70 overpass.
Some people find it a little confusing.
Bo Robinson said, â??Itâ??s going to take some getting used to. It looks like a pretty complicated spot to go through right now.â??
Tori Verhoven said, â??I work over here at the mall, so itâ??s like I guess itâ??s going to be more convenient. I hope when it gets all together. Right now, Iâ??m really confused and overwhelmed by it all.â??
The new interchange is part of a bigger project to improve Stadium Boulevard from Broadway to the highway.
MoDOT officials said all the improvements should be done in about a year.
