      Diverging Diamond Interchange Opens

Drivers have to cross over to the opposite side of the road while on the Interstate 70 overpass.

Columbia??s new Diverging Diamond Interchange opened to traffic shortly after midnight this morning.

That was about 6 hours ahead of schedule.

The interchange is part of $13 million project to improve traffic flow near Stadium Boulevard and Interstate 70.

The traffic pattern of the Diverging Diamond Interchange is one of a kind in Mid-Missouri.

Drivers have to cross over to the opposite side of the road while on the Interstate 70 overpass.

Some people find it a little confusing.

Bo Robinson said, ??It??s going to take some getting used to. It looks like a pretty complicated spot to go through right now.??

Tori Verhoven said, ??I work over here at the mall, so it??s like I guess it??s going to be more convenient. I hope when it gets all together. Right now, I??m really confused and overwhelmed by it all.??

The new interchange is part of a bigger project to improve Stadium Boulevard from Broadway to the highway.

MoDOT officials said all the improvements should be done in about a year.
