The Audrain County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday that it is investigating the death of a 19-year-old victim as a homicide.

The death of Antonio Jefferson was due to blood loss, Sheriff Matt Oller said at a press conference. He also said a weapon was found on-scene, but the office was unable to share any more details.

The sheriff's office expressed it needed to know the whereabouts of Jefferson from the last time he was seen to the time when the 911 call came in Tuesday, approximately 11:31 a.m. - 12:01 p.m.

Law enforcement received the call, which reported a car on fire and a man down in the roadway. When emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found a passenger car had crashed into a tree, and saw Jefferson lying in the roadway with injuries not consistent with a car crash, a release from the sheriff's office stated.

Oller asked that anyone with information regarding the investigation to contact the Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad at (573)473-5801 ext. 1504, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-392-TIPS.
