Multiple accidents Friday on 1-70 in the Columbia area have caused injuries and traffic back-ups.
A little before 9:00 a.m., a semi-tractor trailer carrying anhydrous ammonia overturned in an eastbound lane of I-70 at the 128 mile marker.
Columbia Police said the driver had serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Both eastbound lanes of the Interstate were shut down for 25 minutes while they extracted the driver.
The tank was intact and no anhydrous ammonia had been released. Crews did find that about 20 gallons of diesel fuel spilled in the median. As protocol dictates, the Department of Natural of Natural Resources was notified. Cleanup continued into Friday afternoon.
Later Friday morning, a camper trailer overturned at the 122 mile marker of I-70, initially blocking both eastbound lanes.
The driver in that accident was flown to a local hospital by a helicopter.
Later in the afternoon, there was a third crash near mile marker 124. No further details have been released.
