Crews fight fire at Columbia apartment complex

The fire at the Country Club Apartments was under control in about half hour.

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire at a Columbia apartment complex Saturday afternoon.

The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to the Country Club Apartments, 3705 Forum Boulevard, just after 4 p.m. and arrived less than six minutes later.

Crews on the scene found heavy fire and smoke coming from second-floor apartment 824. Crews launched an aggressive fire attack, but within eight minutes the fire was threatening to spread to an adjacent apartment through the attic space.

The commander on the scene called for three additional fire trucks and firefighters.

The fire was brought under control in about half hour, with most of the damage contained to the one apartment.

No one was in apartment 824 at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

No cause or damage estimate has been determined.

Four quints, two ladder trucks, a snozzle and a rescue squad responded to the call.
