Cooper County man injured by explosion dies

According to Sheriff Wolfe, Fredrich was assembling an explosive device, possibly for use as a shooting target.

A Cooper County man, who was seriously injured by a homemade explosive device earlier in the month, has died.

Cooper County Sheriff Jerry Wolfe confirmed that 60-year-old Earl Fredrich died Monday evening while at a hospital in Columbia.

According to Sheriff Wolfe, Fredrich was assembling an explosive device on Speed Drive south of Boonville, possibly for use as a shooting target.

Wolfe said Fredrich was attempting, â??some sort of remote detonation,â?? on Saturday June 7th when the device exploded.

Investigators are considering the incident an accident.
