UPDATE The Boone County Medical Examiner's office confirms that one of the workers has died. He was identified only as a male in his late 40's.
ORIGINAL STORY Two construction workers were rushed to University Hospital after falling off the roof of an apartment building Wednesday morning in Columbia.
The Columbia Fire Department responded to an emergency call from the Katy Place Apartments at 1700 Forum Blvd. around 8:45 a.m. According to officials, the workers appeared to have been working on the siding of Building 14 when their ladders and scaffolding collapsed. They reportedly fell about 30 feet and sustained serious injuries.
The cause of the collapse is unknown. The building is a two-story, ten unit apartment building.
The men, whose identities are unknown at this time, were taken to the hospital as "trauma alerts" with potentially serious injuries.
