Community cleans up after fire at St. Elizabeth School

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. No one was hurt.

Students at St. Elizabeth School got the day off Wednesday, but not because of the weather.

A fire broke out in the concession stand area near the gym Wednesday morning.

A water main break also flooded the gym and locker rooms. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

"We can only speculate that either the fire started and broke a main and the water put the fire out, or the water started an electrical fire and then was self-contained because we have fire doors," said St. Elizabeth R-IV Superintendent Toni Taylor.

Staff members, community members and students rallied together to clean up the mess.

No one was hurt in the fire. Classes will resume when the school is cleaned up and rid of smoke.
