Columbia voters approve sewer bond issue

By a wide margin, Columbia voters approved a $32.3 million sewer bond issue.

The issue passed with almost 80 percent of the vote.

Proposition 1 will pay to maintain the existing sewer system, extend some lines and improve the wastewater treatment plant.

A group promoting the passage of the issue says sewer bills will go up by about $3.00 per month over the next five years.

Only eight percent of voters came to the polls Tuesday.
