Columbia man found guilty in teen's murder

The Boone County jury found 20-year-old Anthony Graves guilty on Wednesday and recommended a sentence of 30 years for the March 2012 murder of DeAudre Johnson.

A Columbia man has been convicted of felony murder in the shooting death of a 17-year-old who police say was not the intended target.

The Boone County jury found 20-year-old Anthony Graves guilty on Wednesday and recommended a sentence of 30 years for the March 2012 murder of DeAudre Johnson. Graves will be sentenced June 10.

The Columbia Daily Tribune reports investigators believed Johnson was shot because he was with someone with whom Graves had an ongoing dispute.

Graves testified Wednesday that he fired shots during a dispute with another man but the bullet that killed Johnson did not come from his gun. He also said the shooting was in self-defense.
