Columbia elementary principal arrested for leaving scene of an accident

33-year-old Mark Burlison, the principal of Blue Ridge Elementary School in Columbia, was arrested over the weekend for leaving the scene of an accident he allegedly caused on I-70.

The principal of a Columbia elementary school was arrested over the weekend for leaving the scene of an accident on the I-70 bridge over the Missouri River.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Mark Burlison of Boonville left the scene of an accident in which he is suspected of running into the rear of another driver, causing her to crash her car into a guardrail and become turned around in traffic.

The patrol's crash report stated the driver of the pickup that caused the wreck left the scene. That person was later identified as Burlison, and he was arrested and taken to the Cooper County Jail, where he bonded out.

Burlison is the principal of Blue Ridge Elementary School in Columbia. The Columbia Public School District is not commenting on the arrest.

Charges are pending.
