Columbia apartment fire sends one to hospital

One person has been sent to the hospital after an apartment fire early Monday morning.

A fire at a Columbia apartment sent one person to the hospital early Monday morning.

Columbia Fire crews responded to a commercial structure fire in the 2400 block of White Gate Drive.

Crews arrived on the scene just after 2 a.m. to find smoke coming out of the front of the building.

The fire was out when they got there, but left significant smoke still in the apartment.

The fire and smoke was contained to the apartment it started in.

One person was in the apartment during the fire and was taken to the hospital.

Their current condition is unknown.

Damage is estimated at $3,500.

Assistant Fire Marshal Brian Davison stated the fire is still under investigation at this time.
