The intersection of Lafayette and East Dunklin in Jefferson City is a busy area, and it could get worse.
MoDOT plans to build a new Highway 50 interchange just north of the intersection.
The Cole County Commission approved an engineering study to figure out the best way to deal with the extra traffic feeding onto Lafayette.
Presiding Commissioner Marc Ellinger said they should know by the end of the summer whether a roundabout or a traffic signal would work best for the intersection.
Right now it's a four-way stop.
Both the county and city would like to get the project finished before MoDOT begins work on their ramps.
That should happen next summer.
