Cole County deputies get special training

Cole County Sheriff's Deputies got some hands-on training Wednesday.

About 20 deputies got active shooter training, which showed them how to handle situations if someone is armed and a threat to a number of people.

Sheriff Greg White said they brought in one of the best tactical instruction teams in the country to do the training. He said this type of training is necessary in today's world.

"With all the incidents across the country where you've had an armed individual go into a place and begin active murder, White said. You can no longer do the things that we traditionally did in the past by setting up a perimeter and then taking your time. You have to go in quickly and stop the event."

White said the training will teach the deputies to make quick decisions on how to diffuse shooter-situations. Eventually all the deputies will go through the program.
