The director of the Cole County Health Department and a member of the Jefferson City School Board announced she has accepted a "new job opportunity" in Flagstaff, Arizona.
Dr. Marie Peoples made the announcement in a post on her Facebook page. The post reads: "Who knew it was possible to be happy and sad at the same time? I have accepted a new job opportunity in Flagstaff, AZ. I am thrilled with the new challenge but I am sad to leave great people, a great job, great schools and an overall fabulous community! I will be relocating over the next couple of months but I will be back and forth a lot. If I donâ??t see you before I leave- I will catch you on a return trip."
Peoples has been the director of the Cole County Health Department since 2010.
Peoples was also appointed to the Jefferson City School Board in 2010 after the resignation of Brad Scrivner. She was elected to the board in 2011.
Her biography on the Jefferson City Public School's website also lists her as secretary on the board of the Capital City Boys & Girls Club, a youth mentor through the Missouri Valley Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and a parent board member of the Jefferson City Academic Center.
