The Henry County Courthouse glowed in candlelight Wednesday night as hundreds of community members gathered to honor fallen officer, Gary Michael.

The candlelight vigil began at 8:30 p.m. with attendees filtering in hours before the event. A large American flag hung above the crowd as friends and family shared kind words about the Clinton policeman.

"I wanted to thank everybody for being here and supporting us. It's an -- overwhelming support," Cresinda Michael, the widow of the slain officer said. "I found that I have a huge family. I just wanted to say thank you."

Michael's funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Benson Convention Center, with a public viewing two hours before the service.

The 37-year-old officer was shot to death Sunday during a traffic stop in Clinton. Suspect Ian McCarthy, 39, was arrested Tuesday evening.
