Three Centralia residents were arrested Monday after a lengthy investigation into stolen scrap metal.
A Centralia officer stopped the vehicle Christopher Hosmer was driving at the intersection of Allen Street and Southwest Circle for a traffic violation.
The officer noticed a large amount of scrap metal in the back of the vehicle and started questioning Hosmer and his passengers, 30-year-old Angela Brown and 24-year-old Christopher Shoemaker.
All three admitted it was stolen property and also admitted to selling stolen scrap metal to local scrap dealers.
Centralia Police said they had been investigating cases of stolen scrap metal in the area for the last three to four months.
Officers said the stolen property not only involved Boone County, but other surrounding counties.
Police said other counties involved include Audrain and Randolph, and more counties could be added.
The investigation into the stolen scrap metal is ongoing.
