Case against JCPD officer handed over to county prosecutor

Fri, 04 Nov 2011 19:04:21 GMT — The case against a Jefferson City Police Officer accused of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident has been turned over to county officials for a possible felony charge.JCPD officer Rachael Barnard is accused of driving while intoxicated and backing into a car in the 1600 block of Tanner Bridge Road on Oct. 24. She was off duty at the time of the accident.Jefferson City Prosecutor Brian Stumpe said he was waiting for a valuation report from an insurance company before he made his decision on charges. Stumpe said the valuation report showed damage in excess of $1,000 which forced charges to become a Class D Felony.Stumpe signed the paperwork Friday to turn reports and the case over to Cole County Prosecutor Mark Richardson.
