A car ran into one of the Gateway Apartment Buildings on Columbia's south side Thursday night.

When firefighters arrived at the apartment building at 3908 Buttonwood at about 8:20 p.m., they found a white four-door car in the balcony of the first floor of building #2 . The three-story building houses eighteen units.

No one was hurt, but as a precaution, firefighters evacuated the center three apartments of the building. A representative from Columbia Public Works Building and Site Development responded to assess the structure. Once the building was determined safe, the tenants were allowed back.

Columbia police said the accident happened when a tenant was parking and accidentally pressed the gas instead of the brake.
