Callaway County's nuclear plant is shut down after a small fire in a turbine building.
Authorities said the Ameren Missouri Callaway Energy Center is safe and currently out of service in accordance with safety procedures.
Shortly before midnight, crews extinguished the fire and the center is currently out of service in accordance with safety protocols and procedures.
At no time did the situation threaten the public or nearby communities.
No one was injured.
There was no release of radioactivity to the environment above normal operating limits.
Investigators with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission have started an investigation.
An assessment is underway to determine when the center can return to service.
