Callaway County collector resigns following suspcious activity on checking account
CALLAWAY COUNTY —
Callaway County officials are conducting an audit after bank personnel noticed suspicious activity on a county checking account.
According to prosecuting attorney Christopher Wilson, officials from Central Bank met with Wilson's office Thursday morning about "suspicious activity on a Callaway County checking account maintained by the County Collector."
Pam Oestreich, the county collector, met with the county commissioner and sheriff and tendered her resignation. The county commission unanimously accepted her resignation.
County clerk Denise Hubbard has taken charge of tax records from the collector's office, a release from Wilson's office stated. Gov. Eric Greitens' office will appoint a new county collector. The county commission voted to temporarily close the collector's office.
The release stated all collector's office employees were cooperating with county officials and the audit process.
The situation was referred to the FBI.
