Suspect arrested on suspicion of murder in Pettis County homicide
PETTIS COUNTY —
Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond said Friday afternoon a suspect has been arrested in connection to a Tuesday evening fatal shooting.
Bond did not release the name of the suspect, saying he would wait until formal charges are filed. He did say the suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder.
The sheriff said 21-year-old Cassandra White died from gunshot wounds at a residence at the Western View Estates Tuesday evening, just outside of Sedalia's city limits. White was the mother of two children: an infant and a toddler. The children were home at the time of the shooting but were not harmed.
Bond confirmed his office was investigating the case as a homicide Thursday and said the autopsy had been completed. Friday afternoon, the sheriff stated following the results of the autopsy, he learned the victim had been shot multiple times and investigators were able to obtain bullet fragments.
Pettis County sheriff's deputies went to southeast Missouri to follow up on suspect leads. While Bond did not confirm where the suspect was arrested, he did say the suspect was not in the Pettis County Jail as of Friday at 3:15 p.m.
