A 17-year-old boy who was swimming at the confluence of Perche Creek and the Missouri River Thursday evening was seen going underwater at about 7:00 and a search for him has so far uncovered no trace.

According to Mike Cooper, the owner of Cooper's Landing, located about a half-mile away from where the boy is believed to have entered the water, the boy was seen going underwater in the Missouri River by world-class canoeist Janet Moreland.

Moreland sounded the alarm, and emergency personnel soon began the search. The search was called off at 11:00 and resumed this morning, but so far, no sign of the boy, who Cooper identified only as Eric, has been found.

Search officials say a drowning happened in the same area two-years ago.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is heading up the search.
