The body of a 17-year-old boy who was seen going underwater in the Missouri River Thursday evening has been found near the mouth of Perche Creek.
According to Boone County Fire Protection District spokesman Gale Blomenkamp, Eric Alvarado, 17 of Columbia, was found near the same spot at which he was last seen.
Witnesses say Alvarado and some friends had been swimming in Perche Creek at about 7:00 Thursday evening, near its confluence with the river.
A canoeist on the river reported seeing Alvarado go underwater, at which time emergency personnel were called.
After calling off the search overnight, it was resumed again early Friday morning, and the victim's body was recovered some three hours later. .
