Boone Hospital announces staffing cuts. Employees were notified Wednesday of the cuts that take effect immediately.
While the workforce will be reduced by 26 positions, the hospital says some of those positions are vacant.
The net impact will be 13 people losing their jobs, seven more seeing their hours reduced.
The hospital says the cuts were necessary to stay on strong financial footing as the hospital sees fewer inpatients, increased charity care and reduced reimbursement from government health care programs.
A statement from the hospital goes on to say, "This was a difficult decision and was hard news to share with our Boone Hospital family. But we know this decision is critical as we continue our mission of improving the health of the people and communities we serve."
A hospital spokesman confirms, the reductions come from across the hospital. They include front line staff as well as leadership, clinical and non-clinical positions. Boone officials say the cuts will not impact the availability of any hospital services.
