Body of missing Missouri teen found near Iberia

Funeral arrangements have been made for 13-year-old Macala Shelton.

According to Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home, "Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., with services immediately following at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Iberia. Bill Claiborn and Dan Livingston will officiate. Interment will be held in Hawkins Cemetery near Iberia."

Charges have been filed in the death of a 13-year-old Iberia girl.

Steven N. Henderson is charged with 1st degree murder and armed criminal action. He's being held in the Miller County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

Miller County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Howard filed the charges on Sunday, the same day Macala Shelton's body was found in a wooded area

at an unoccupied farm near Iberia.

According to court documents released Monday afternoon, 30-year-old Steven Henderson told authorities that he stabbed Macala with a large survival knife.

He also told officers he disposed of that knife. Law enforcement found that knife in the familyâ??s home in the 100 block of N. St. Louis Street in Iberia. The Highway Patrol says the stabbing happened around dawn on Sunday.

Detectives said while they were searching the familyâ??s home on North St. Louis Street, they found weapons and ammunition in Jerry Henderson IIâ??s bedroom. Detectives said several of the firearms were not locked up and were loaded.

They found more than 20 firearms, several hundred pounds of ammunition and hundreds of assault rifle magazines. Henderson was found to be a convicted felon for 2nd degree arson out of Miller County.

Jerry Henderson is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon. His bond is set at $50,000.

Both Iberia residents were arraigned in Miller County court late Monday morning.


A news conference is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Monday with information on the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy is going to be conducted. Tune into KRCG Live at 5:00 and 6:00 for the latest develpments.

The Miller County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the body of a missing 13-year-old girl from Iberia. Miller County Sheriff Bill Abbott said in a press release that her body was found in a wooded area at an unoccupied farm near Iberia. Details surrounding her disappearance remain unknown.


The Endangered Person Advisory for Macala Shelton has been cancelled. Authorities say she has been located. The circumstances surrounding this are unknown at this time.

The Miller County Sheriff's Office has issued an Endangered Person Advisory for a 13-year-old girl.

Macala Shelton is a white female, 5'1" and 90 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing black framed glasses, a neon yellow baseball shirt with the number "8" on it and black shorts.

Shelton was last seen going to bed around 11:45 p.m. Friday night in her home in Iberia, Missouri.

When her grandmother went to wake her around 1 p.m. Saturday she was not there.

Anyone with information on Shelton's whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately or contact the Miller County Sheriff's Office at 573-369-2341.
