The Blair Oaks School Board has voted for negotiations to begin toward building a new middle school.
The board Tuesday night voted to authorize Architects Alliance to begin contract negotiations with Verslues Construction.
Verslues was the low bidder, but the board wants to limit the cost to $5,700,000, about $900,000 lower than Verslues' total bid, which includes 10 alternative plans for equipment inclusions.
Superintendent Jim Jones says the board decided to allow more time for the project after getting feedback from contractors.
Current plans call for the new middle school to be ready for occupancy in early 2009; the school will include fifth through the eighth grades.
