More than 1,200 students will attend Muriel Williams Battle High School this fall.
The event included a formal dedication ceremony, facility tours and a special showing of a documentary about Muriel Battle and her husband Elliot.
The Battle family attended the event to help dedicate the new school.
Elliot Battle said, â??I have nothing but pride. I feel so good knowing that Muriel has caused this thing to happen today. Sheâ??s watching it and enjoying every bit of it.â??
Muriel Battle passed away in 2003 and was an outstanding African-American educator and school administrator who worked and lived in Columbia.
Students will begin summer school classes at Battle High School on Monday morning.
