Update: Sept. 1 at 11:15 a.m.: Damien Bryan, the driver of the Ford truck in Wednesday's accident has been released from the hospital. The Highway Patrol said the investigation is ongoing, but at this time, the only charges Bryan may face are related to traffic violations. They do not plan to arrest him as a result of the crash. When the investigation is complete, the Highway Patrol will turn their findings over to the Cole County Prosecuting Attorney's office, which is standard procedure after a traffic accident.
Update: Wednesday, August 31st at 5:00 p.m.: The Highway Patrol released the victims names this afternoon. Killed were Joan Hamilton, 75, of Lenexa, Kansas, and Donald Edwards, 58, of Russelville. The driver of the Ford truck was Damien Bryan of Jefferson City.
Update: Wednesday, August 31st at 4:00 p.m.: Route C has reopened after the three-vehicle accident. Update: Wednesday, August 31st at 1:10 p.m.: Authorities are still trying to piece together the accident scene, but have confirmed the woman who died was driving a Lexus SUV. The man was driving a Blazer.The driver of the third vehicle, a Blue Ford F150 was taken to the hospital following the accident.Law enforcement officials said they are still not sure who caused the accident, but they believe the Lexus, which was traveling eastbound on Highway C hit the Pick-up, which was pulling across C northbound on to Rumsey Lane. Then, they believe the Blazer hit the Lexus as it was spun around after hitting the truck. Update: Wednesday, August 31st at 12:20 p.m.: The three-vehicle accident in Cole County was a double fatality accident.Authorities confirmed one man and one woman both died in the accident. The two were in different vehicles.Route C is currently closed as a result of the accident. It is expected to remain closed most of the afternoon.The Highway Patrol has called in the major crash team from St. Louis to investigate the crash. The team is usually called in when there is something unsual about the crash scene. Original Story: Cole County authorities are investigating a three car accident in Jefferson City on Wednesday.The accident happened on Route C near the South Country Club intersection.Two of the vehicles appear to have struck head-on and authorities had to cut the top off of the one of the SUVs. Two SUVs and one Ford F150 truck were involved in the accident.At that location Route C is a two lane highway. Crews were still at the scene at noon, almost an hour after the initial call went out.At least one person was taken from the scene to a local hospital.
