A two time NCAA national champion as a Missouri Tiger was in the Olympic limelight last night.
Ben Askren competed in Beijing in the qualifying round of the 74 kilogram or 163 pound men's free style wrestling competition. In the 1st match, Askren faced Istvan Vereb from Hungary.
Askren came from behind to win the match on a pin. In the second match, Askren met Ivan Fundora of Cuba, the bronze medalist from the 2004 games.
Fundora won that match, ending Askren TMs Olympic dream.
Askren, a Wisconsin native, ends up with an Olympics record of 1 and 1.
