Ashland pair arrested for assaulting deputy, resisting arrest

A man and woman from Ashland are facing multiple charges after getting into a physical altercation with a Boone County Sheriff's deputy Friday night.

The deputy responded to an unrelated animal complaint call in the area of Rippeto Road and Easley River Road at 7:48 p.m. when he saw a car moving slowly with a woman sitting on the roof.

Upon speaking with the occupants, the deputy determined that the driver, 35-year-old Rex Barstow, was intoxicated. In addition, Barstow's driver's license was revoked, he failed to register the vehicle, he was using license plates belonging to another person and had no insurance on the vehicle.

As the deputy arrested Barstow and put him into the patrol car, Barstow asked the deputy to get something from the car before he was taken to jail. When the deputy attempted to do this, the passenger, 49-year-old Patricia Basurto smacked his hand.

The deputy placed Basurto in handcuffs.

When Barstow saw this happening, he started kicking the windows of the patrol car and ultimately kicked out the glass.

Barstow attempted to exit the car through the broken window as he engaged in a physical altercation with the deputy.

While this was happening, Barstow told Basurto to run away and hide. Basurto ran away as the deputy was dealing the Barstow.

A Boone County K9 unit responded to the scene and found her hiding in the nearby brush.

Basurto was arrested for assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest.
