Ashland Board of Aldermen appoints two

Ashland Board of Aldermen appointed an acting police chief and a ward 2 alderman at Tuesday's meeting

A town that has been facing some leadership issues was given a little breathing room Tuesday night.

Ashland board of aldermen appointed Captain Terry Tolson as acting chief of police.

Tolson will fulfill all duties of former police chief Anthony Consiglio. Consiglio will be placed on paid administrative leave until the board approves an investigation into allegations against Consiglio, a discussion that was tabled Tuesday night.

Mayor Michael Jackson said the board will continue to work on filling all the empty seats on the board as soon as possible. He says the decision to appoint Capt. Tolson is a step in the right direction, as Tolson has had several years of experience in law enforcement in Ashland.

Jackson said there's no immediate crisis, but understands the community's concerns about the lack of unison on the board and wants to help mend the city's view of it's leadership.

The Ward 2 alderman position was appointed to John Hill.

Current city administrator Kelly Henderson was in attendance, and Tuesday's meeting was city councilman Carl Long's first meeting since re-appointment.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 18th, at 7:00 p.m.
