Morgan County law enforcement officials say arrests are likely in an animal abuse case involving more than 150 dogs, cats, horses and goats.
The Morgan County Sheriff's department and the Humane Society Animal Cruelty Task Force removed the animals from a property near Barnett Tuesday and took them to the Humane Society's St. Louis headquarters for treatment and evaluation. The animals suffered from a variety of ailments, including malnuturition, resperatory distress, parasites, and eye infections.
Lt. Mike Nienhuis said investigators need to interview some 40 people who were keeping animals at the property in order to determine who may be culpable and "who's going to be charged with what." Although Nienhuis says there is no estimate on when charges might be filed, he is "confident there will be charges and they will have probable cause statements filed against them."
