Arrest made in July arson

Aimable Ruganzu, 26, is charged with the July 5 arson on McClure Street that forced three sleeping people to climb out a windo to safety.

Columbia police, working with investigators from the Columbia Fire Department, have arrested a 26-year-old man on charges of arson for setting a house on fire while the occupants were sleeping inside on July 5.

According to police, Aimable Ruganzu is charged with first degree arson for the fire at 2701 McClure. At the time, three occupants sleeping inside awoke to the sound of a smoke alarm and had to climb out a bedroom window to safety.

Damage was estimated at $85,000.
