Arrest made in 22-year-old murder case

The Phelps County Sheriffâ??s Department announced the arrest of a man in connection with a 22-year-old murder case.

William Earl Harrison of Rolla was 28-years-old when deputies say he killed Jerry Wayne King.

Kingâ??s body was found near the entrance to the Gourd Creek Cave, which is located near the end of what is now County Road 7270.

Harrison was originally arrested for the murder, but after a number of court proceedings, Harrison was released and the case soon turned cold.

Last year the Phelps County Prosecuting Attorney requested the Sheriff to look at the case. It was reassigned to the Criminal Investigative Unit, who was assisted by one investigator from the Prosecutors Office. After numerous interviews and other examinations, the case was presented to a Phelps County Grand Jury who returned a true bill.

Harrison was arrested Friday on charges of Murder in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action.
