Three adults and four kids are without a place to stay after an apartment fire in Jefferson City.
Fire crews told KRCG 13 the fire started at about noon in the 800 block of West Broadway.
Firefighters contained the fire to the bottom floor.
Some witnesses were shocked by the smoke.
"I didn't see any flames, I just saw all the smoke and it was a lot of it. It surprised...it shocked me to see a house downtown on fire," said Sam Maune, who stopped to take a video after seeing it while driving south on Dunklin Street.
Mark Larsen, who lives across the street from the building, said fire crews did a good job putting the flames out quickly.
"I heard a lot of commotion; a lot of screaming. I ran outside and there were some family members carrying some children outside...running with them and at that point the flames were pretty big at the house so it was a pretty scary, pretty intense moment."
No one was hurt in the fire, and the cause is still under investigation.
