Days away from Missouri's tax free shopping weekend, a Columbia woman spoke out about a recent experience she had in the parking lot of a popular shopping center.

Nora Dietzel posted to Facebook Tuesday, claiming a young man watched her get into her car in the Best Buy parking lot. As she started her engine, she said he tried to open her rear passenger's side door.

Dietzel told KRCG13 Wednesday she was running errands in the Stadium Plaza shopping center on Worley Street.

She said when she reported the incident to police, they told her they had already received a call with the man's description.

Dietzel said upon entering her car, she immediately locked her doors. She said it's something she doesn't normally do, but says now she's going to make it a habit for her safety.

Her Facebook post had been shared more than 3,000 times as of Wednesday night.

Columbia police would not confirm the incident, but the department's spokeswoman said an officer was following up on an ongoing call on Worley Street Wednesday afternoon.

The department has several personal safety tips while in a parking lot on its website.
