A split weekend of spring weather: Sunshine & Storms
By Dan Ebner
Fri, 11 Apr 2014 21:33:33 GMT — We will see the two sides of spring this weekend in Mid-Missouri: FRIDAY NIGHT/SATURDAY: A warm front will move through the region overnight Friday which will open the doors to moisture, gusty winds and temperatures around 80 degrees (and a bit warmer near the Lake of the Ozarks) for the day on Saturday; skies will be mostly sunny. Winds will be gusty from the southwest at 15-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph ahead of a center of low pressure and cold front that will move in Sunday afternoon. Saturday is shaping up to be a great day across Mid-Missouri ?? hope everyone can get out and enjoy the first half of the weekend! SATURDAY NIGHT: Skies will be mostly cloudy and temperatures will be mild. Lows will fall near the 60 degree mark. While thunderstorm chances are on the low side Saturday night, there could be a few rumbles of thunder that pop-up primarily in the northern counties (north of 1-70) overnight and toward early Sunday morning. SUNDAY: Sunday will be a day that you want to keep an eye to the sky and follow the StormVision Weather Team closely. As it looks now, there will likely be two waves of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. The first round could develop as early as 12-1 in the afternoon. These storms would be more isolated and discrete. The main threats with these initial storms will be large hail and damaging winds. While the threat for tornadoes is small, there is a very isolated threat for a tornado during the afternoon on Sunday. The second wave of showers and thunderstorms will move in during the early evening. This will pose more of a damaging wind, large hail and very heavy rain threat Sunday evening and overnight. Highs on Sunday will be back in the lower 70s. We will likely see 1-2 inches of rain in spots across Mid-Missouri. Rain will likely continue overnight Sunday and into Monday. Temperatures Monday will be much cooler than this weekend. Highs on Monday will be in the upper 40s/lower 50s. Monday night, expect temperatures in the low/middle 30s. The KRCG 13 StormVision Weather Team will continue to update the upcoming forecast and storm threat for Mid-Missouri. Check back here for updates Saturday and Sunday.
