      23-year-old robbery suspect in custody

      The victim said she woke up to knocking on her door. She expected her boyfriend when she answered the door but instead an unknown subject pointed a handgun at her and forced her back into the room.

      Wednesday afternoon a 23-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with a robbery.

      At 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jefferson City Communications received a call from a victim saying she had been robbed at the Budget Inn on 1309 Jefferson Street.

      The victim gave police a suspect description to alert other officers in the area.

      The victim said she woke up to knocking on her door. She expected her boyfriend when she answered the door but instead an unknown subject pointed a handgun at her and forced her back into the room. The suspect hit the victim in the face before stealing cash and her cell phone.

      The suspect was identified by authority contacts.

      The suspect was found in the 1500 Block of Jefferson Street and taken to the police department for questioning. The suspect told police he was supposed to meet the victim to sell narcotics.

      The suspect was taken to Cole County Jail with pending charges for first degree robbery, first degree assault, and possession of a controlled substance, marijuana.
