Missouri bill expands access to proposed rules

Some Missouri lawmakers want to give the public another way of learning about proposed rules that could affect people's lives and businesses.

Legislation given initial Senate approval Thursday would require each state agency to include information on its website about rule changes it's proposing.

Proposed rules already are published in the Missouri Register and are posted on the secretary of state's website. The legislation would not change that but would add more sites to find the information.

It would require that agencies post online both a summary of their proposed rule changes and a link to the full text.

The bill needs a second Senate vote to go to the House.
